Big Sur is one of the most beautiful places on the California coast. With its dramatic cliffs, endlessly blue ocean, and abundant wildlife, it's no wonder why people come from all over the world to experience its majestic beauty. Here are the top 5 things you won't want to miss on your next trip to Big Sur.

Hike to a Waterfall

There are many hiking trails in Big Sur, but one of the most popular is the hike to McWay Falls. The trail is only 0.6 miles long, but it's a bit of a difficult hike with a few sections of stairs. The waterfall at the end is worth it though—it's 80 feet tall and flows directly into the ocean. As an added bonus, you might even see some dolphins swimming in the ocean below!

Go Whale Watching

One of the best ways to experience Big Sur is by boat. There are several charter companies that offer whale watching tours, and you're almost guaranteed to see some whales if you go during whale season (April-November). Keep your eyes peeled for other wildlife too—you might see seals, sea lions, otters, and more!

Visit Julia Pfeiffer Burns State Park

This state park is home to one of Big Sur's most iconic landmarks—McWay Falls. In addition to the waterfall, there are also two miles of hiking trails with incredible views of the ocean. You can also find tide pools full of sea creatures and plenty of opportunities for birdwatching.

Drive Down Highway 1

Highway 1 is one of the most scenic drives in all of California. It hugs the coastline for nearly 600 miles and offers stunning views at every turn. You'll definitely want to take your time driving down Highway 1 so you can enjoy all it has to offer!

Have a Campfire on the Beach

One of the best things about Big Sur is that there are plenty of opportunity s to connect with nature. One great way to do this is by having a campfire on one of its many beaches. Make sure you get a permit before building a fire, and be sure to clean up after yourself when you're done!

Summary

Big Sur is an amazing place with something for everyone—whether you're looking for breathtaking views, exciting adventures, or opportunities to relax and connect with nature.
